A Bit About Me & My Family

I had no idea how expensive kids would be until we got knocked-up and started digging into the numbers. The first year alone can cost over $20k!

As staggering of a number as that is, it’s just an average. Every family is different and there are plenty of ways to cut costs.

My amazing wife and I met in high school and have been attached to the hip ever since.

A bit co-dependent?

Yup, especially since we share an office now - at least we finally splurged for a second desk.

After graduating from college together, we lived the duel-income-no-kids lifestyle during our 20’s. We had ample time for career moves, time with family and friends, and you know…sleep and general merriment.

Baby fever hit me early on, a few years ahead of my bride. But I was patient and waited until she was ready. Then a few unexpected events transpired and it took longer than we hoped to have a baby, but that’s a story for another time.

Right when we were deciding to take a break from the idea of growing our own baby the old fashioned way…boom! Sperm hit egg and roughly nine months later we were blessed with our daughter, who is a literal dream come true. Thank you, modern medicine.

I knew for years that I wanted to write about personal finances but it wasn’t until my daughter was born that I had the inspiration to actually put pen to paper.

The logo is a depiction of me and my daughter as gorillas.

If you didn’t know, gorillas are one of the few good fathers of the animal kingdom, which is one of the reasons why they’re my favorite animal.

The past decade career-wise

I spent several years working in group benefits and was the guy you called whenever you needed help understanding your employer benefits or retirement plans.

Lately my career has been dedicated to marketing, working for consumer packaged goods and financial technology companies (taxes, mortgages, etc.). I’ve been fortunate to have amazing mentors whom have successfully run small businesses, invested in real estate, and have achieved early retirement.

In my free time, I’ve helped countless families over the years grow in their finances and careers. From budgeting to business decisions, my 1:1 coaching has covered a wide array of topics, all in service in helping families improve their financial situation and create generational wealth.

While we are still pursuing early retirement, we’ve extended our runway to be able to provide certain things for our daughter that we didn’t have growing up (looking at you organic strawberries).

Feel free to check out my marketing consulting and money coaching pages if you’re curious to learn more about my professional background.

Why I created Knocked-up Money

I created Knocked-up Money to help educate and empower parents and parents-to-be take control of their finances and help work towards a better future.

While I may be a marketer by trade, my passion is helping others live a more financially-fit life.

Two topics that I’m really excited about is the FIRE Movement and prepping for the future (like seven generations ahead) - these influences have helped shape our family’s financial plan.

We’ve learned countless lessons over the past decade - from taking on too much debt, mastering our budget, and investing for the future.

My hope is that the writings in this blog will help you along your journey.

Whether you are curious about starting a side hustle or budgeting basics, we have something for everyone.

If you haven’t already, check out the blog and free weekly newsletter, both are jam-packed with tons of tips on making and saving more money.
